Youth Education at Anshe Tikvah

Discovering the many pathways to a meaningful Jewish life.

Anshe Tikvah’s Youth Education programs are designed for families who believe Judaism is a living practice grounded in deed. We recognize that every child follows their own holy path and strive to provide a safe space where students can entreat, explore, and evolve. Our goal is to help students understand their significant role in the world through performing sacred acts (mitzvot) and developing a sense of spiritual self.

Mitzvah School & Hebrew School Overview

Our education programs are open to both dues-paying and non-dues-paying members. Each year, the school adopts a central theme to guide our hands-on exploration of Jewish life.

  • Mitzvah School (K–7th Grade): Meets in-person on Sundays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. The curriculum focuses on understanding how to create a meaningful life through mitzvot.
  • Midrasha (8th–12th Grade): Meets in-person on Sundays from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
  • Hebrew School (3rd–7th Grade): A fully individualized, asynchronous program conducted online.

Curriculum: The Three Pillars

The Mitzvah School is structured around three classical rabbinic concepts designed to build spiritual competency and social responsibility.

  • Torah (Sacred Text): Students develop as thoughtful readers of Jewish texts using Chevrutah (paired learning) to make informed decisions about integrating Jewish values into their daily lives.
  • Avodah (Spiritual Worship): We focus on developing a sense of the spiritual self. Students learn to use prayer and ritual for self-centering and to strengthen their relationship with a Power greater than themselves.
  • Gemilut Chasadim (Social Justice): Every month, students engage in service learning that connects our classroom curriculum with real-world community issues and needs.

2025–26 / 5786 Theme: "Live by them, and do not die by them"

The theme for the upcoming year is Chai vahem v'lo yamut lahem. Our studies will revolve around several Essential Questions:

  • What is a mitzvah hero, and how can I be one?
  • How does Judaism call upon us to act in the world?
  • Why do we have a responsibility to take care of the earth and make it a better place?
  • How do I act in an environmentally responsible way that fulfills the mitzvah of Chai vahem v'lo yamut lahem?
Live by them, and do not die by them
