Cantor Rabbi Rob Jury, MA, MC-NTCW, BCC, CRADC, LCPC, NCC
Cantor Rabbi Rob Jury received his B.A. from the University of Illinois at Chicago in Political Science, where he wrote his senior paper entitled Clergy as Political Activist. He completed the College Intern Teacher Program of the Board of Jewish Education of Metropolitan Chicago, the Mandel Foundation’s Teacher Educator Institute, and the Community Foundation for Jewish Education of Metropolitan Chicago Mentor-Teacher Program. Cantor Jury studied Hazzanut with Hazzan Rav Shlomo Shuster, focusing on the Chicago school of Hazzanut of Cantor Todros Greenberg, the Blinder Hazzan. Cantor Jury is a full member of the Cantors Assembly. Rabbi Jury received his rabbinical ordination from the Hebrew Seminary for the Deaf in Skokie in 2012. Rabbi Jury’s thesis for rabbinical ordination, Heal Us O’ God and We Shall Be Healed, was completed under the supervision of Rabbi Dr. Douglas Goldhamer. Cantor Rabbi Jury received his M.A. from Northwestern University in Counseling in 2017, Masters of Narrative Therapy and Community Work (MC-NTCW) from the University of Melbourne in 2020, and is a PhD student in Counselor Education & Supervision at Northern Illinois University writing his dissertation on Midrash Therapy, an approach to psychotherapy he has developed that integrates narrative practices and rabbinic counseling. Cantor Rabbi Jury is a Certified Reciprocal Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CRADC), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). Cantor Rabbi Jury completed his Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital completing 5 Unites of CPE, his integrative project is entitled Providing Spiritual Care to Patients Undergoing Medical Detoxification in an Acute Care Setting. Cantor Rabbi Jury is a Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) with the Association of Professional Chaplains and the National Association of Jewish Chaplains, where he serves on the board.Chaplain Rob spent five years as the Staff Chaplain at the Advocate Addiction Treatment Program before joining the Illinois Professionals Health Program as Chaplain and Pastoral Therapist. For over a decade Rob Jury has served as a Shaliach Tzibur on Shabbat and Chagim for the Council for Jewish Elderly. Cantor Rabbi Jury is the founding spiritual leader of Anshe Tikvah a community outreach synagogue in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, celebrating their 15th year this year. Congregation Anshe Tikvah, in partnership with the Tikvah Center for Jewish Recovery and Healing is working to open the first Jewish licensed recovery home in Illinois. In July 2020, Congregation Anshe Tikvah moved into the Anshe Tikvah building located on the Kleiman Campus for Jewish Hope and Healing in Northbrook, Illinois.Cantor Rabbi Jury’s research interests include kabbalistic healing prayer, Biblical grammar, spiritual assessment in the treatment of substance use disorders, and the application of negative theology in post-modern pastoral counseling.Cantor Rabbi Rob Jury lives in Evanston, Illinois with his wife Rachel and their children Max, Anna, Elijah, and TJ.
